Michael J Moritz Jr Music Directs Stephen Sondheim Birthday Concert
Michael J Moritz Jr served as Music Director and pianist for the Stephen Sondheim Birthday Concert on March 24, 2015 at 42West. The concert featured an all-star lineup including Billy Magnussen, MacKenzie Mauzy, Lilla Crawford, Rufus Wainwright, Michael McElroy, Broadway Inspirational Voices, Norm Lewis, Lance Horne, Christopher Sieber, Chip Zien, Constantine Maroulis, and Tituss Burgess.
The concert, presented by Jacob Langfelder, celebrates Sondheim's 85th birthday and the success of "Into the Woods" as it makes it's way to cinemas. Sirus XM On Broadway hosts Julie James and Christine Pedi were also in attendance.
Tony Award nominee Nick Cordero (A Bronx Tale, Waitress, Bullets Over Broadway) makes his 54 Below on April 10th and 11th with music director Michael J. Moritz Jr. on piano. Cordero is joined by special guests Zach Braff (Scrubs, Bullets Over Broadway), Kathryn Gallagher (Jagged Little Pill, Spring Awakening), Drew Gehling (Waitress, Jersey Boys), and Sara Chase (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, First Date).
On March 11th, 2019, No Bully presented BROADWAY AGAINST BULLYING, a one-night only cabaret at Feinstein’s/54 Below. Michael J. Mortiz Jr. served as music director.
Erich Bergen will welcome in 2019 along with Michael J. Moritz Jr. and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra! The two hour New Year’s Eve concert features pop songs and classics from movies like Casino Royale, Jersey Boys, Love Story, The Breakfast Club, E.T., Titanic, and many more.
On November 12th, Norbert Leo Butz and friends hosted two sold-out concerts at Feinstein’s 54 Below to benefit The Angel Band Project, which provides music therapy to sexual assault survivors. The concert was music directed by Michael J. Moritz Jr., hosted by Mariska Hargitay, and featured the talents of Aaron Tveit, Jessie Mueller, Sherie Renee Scott, Lindsay Mendez, Rosanne Cash, Hannah Trombley, and Jennifer Hopper.
On September 30th, Erich Bergen (Madam Secretary, Waitress, Jersey Boys), performed in concert at Sony Hall under the musical direction of Michael J. Moritz Jr. The concert featured special guests Betsy Wolfe (Waitress, The Last Five Years) and Emmy nominee Mark Ballas (Kinky Boots).
Broadway Records will release the concert cast recording of Session Girls both in stores and digitally on September 28th. The concert, recorded live at Feinstein’s/54 Below, features music direction by Michael J. Mortiz Jr. and a cast of Broadway performers including Tony nominee Lauren Worsham (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), Jill Abramovitz (Fiddler on the Roof), and Oyoyo Joi (The Book of Mormon).
On April 16th, 2018, some of Broadway and Television’s biggest stars joined the students of Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School at the BB&T Center for a one-night-only concert benefitting MSD Victims’ Fund and Shine MSD. Michael J. Moritz Jr. music directed and conducted the performance.
