2015 Fall Coaching Tour
Michael recently announced his Fall 2015 coaching tour, which kicks off on October 11 and concludes on November 24. Students across the country will have the chance to have individual coachings with the Broadway producer and music director. The cities Michael will be visiting include: Chicago, St. Louis, Denver, Seattle, Orlando, Tampa, Houston, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Napa, and Sonoma. Sign ups are now open, and are filling up fast!
On July 8th, 2019, Cleveland Musical Theatre presented a one-night-only concert presentation of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods at New York City’s The Town Hall. Michael J. Moritz Jr. served as music supervisor.
On June 24th and 25th, 2019, the Drama Desk nominated musical Wanda’s World (Music & Lyrics by Beth Falcone and a Book by Eric H. Weinberger) took to Sound on Sound Studios in Montclair, NJ to record a cast album starring Broadway vets Nancy Opel (Urinetown, Toxic Avenger), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Phantom of the Opera, On the Town), Arielle Jacobs (Aladdin), Alex Boniello (Dear Evan Hansen, Spring Awakening), Max Crumm (Disaster! The Musical, Grease), Troy Iwata, and more!
Michael J. Moritz Jr. serves as producer and mixer on the album. Broadway Records will distribute.
Hadestown, co-produced by Michael J. Moritz Jr., won eight TONY awards at the 73rd Annual Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, and Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Best Sound Design of a Musical, and Best Orchestrations.
Hadestown is currently running on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
At the 2019 Outer Critics Circle Awards on May 13, 2019, the Broadway production of Hadestown, co-produced by Michael J. Moritz Jr., was presented with 6 awards including Outstanding New Broadway Musical, Outstanding New Score (Anaïs Mitchell), Outstanding Director of a Musical (Rachel Chavkin), Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical (Andre De Shields), Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (Amber Gray), and Outstanding Lighting Design.
The winners will be honored at a May 23rd event at Sardi’s.
Hadestown is now running at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
The 2019 Tony Award nominations were announced on Tuesday, April 30th. Hadestown leads with 14 nominations, including Best Musical, Best Director of a Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Leading Actress in A Musical.

Tony Award nominee Nick Cordero (A Bronx Tale, Waitress, Bullets Over Broadway) makes his 54 Below on April 10th and 11th with music director Michael J. Moritz Jr. on piano. Cordero is joined by special guests Zach Braff (Scrubs, Bullets Over Broadway), Kathryn Gallagher (Jagged Little Pill, Spring Awakening), Drew Gehling (Waitress, Jersey Boys), and Sara Chase (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, First Date).
On March 11th, 2019, No Bully presented BROADWAY AGAINST BULLYING, a one-night only cabaret at Feinstein’s/54 Below. Michael J. Mortiz Jr. served as music director.

Erich Bergen will welcome in 2019 along with Michael J. Moritz Jr. and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra! The two hour New Year’s Eve concert features pop songs and classics from movies like Casino Royale, Jersey Boys, Love Story, The Breakfast Club, E.T., Titanic, and many more.
On Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 Hadestown opened in the Olivier Theatre at The National Theatre in London. Michael J. Moritz Jr. will co-produce the Hadestown transfer to Broadway in April 2019.
On November 12th, Norbert Leo Butz and friends hosted two sold-out concerts at Feinstein’s 54 Below to benefit The Angel Band Project, which provides music therapy to sexual assault survivors. The concert was music directed by Michael J. Moritz Jr., hosted by Mariska Hargitay, and featured the talents of Aaron Tveit, Jessie Mueller, Sherie Renee Scott, Lindsay Mendez, Rosanne Cash, Hannah Trombley, and Jennifer Hopper.
On September 30th, Erich Bergen (Madam Secretary, Waitress, Jersey Boys), performed in concert at Sony Hall under the musical direction of Michael J. Moritz Jr. The concert featured special guests Betsy Wolfe (Waitress, The Last Five Years) and Emmy nominee Mark Ballas (Kinky Boots).
Broadway Records will release a concert cast recording of “Tonya & Nancy: The Rock Opera” (book and lyrics by Elizabeth Searle and music by Mike Teoli) on Friday, September 28th. The record is produced and mixed by Michael J. Moritz Jr.
Broadway Records will release the concert cast recording of Session Girls both in stores and digitally on September 28th. The concert, recorded live at Feinstein’s/54 Below, features music direction by Michael J. Mortiz Jr. and a cast of Broadway performers including Tony nominee Lauren Worsham (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), Jill Abramovitz (Fiddler on the Roof), and Oyoyo Joi (The Book of Mormon).
Arielle Jacobs (Broadway’s Aladdin) will release her debut solo album A Leap In The Dark, produced and mixed by Michael J. Moritz Jr. and released by Broadway Records on June 15th.
Broadway Records and Olivier Award Winner Lesli Margherita (Matilda: The Musical, Dames At Sea, Homeland) will release a new album titled “Rule Your Kingdom: Live At Feinstein’s 54 Below” on May 11th.

On April 16th, 2018, some of Broadway and Television’s biggest stars joined the students of Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School at the BB&T Center for a one-night-only concert benefitting MSD Victims’ Fund and Shine MSD. Michael J. Moritz Jr. music directed and conducted the performance.

Session Girls, a new musical by three-time Emmy nominee, Mia Moravis, will debut Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 9:30PM at Feinstein's/54 Below. Michael J. "Broadway Against Bullying", a night featuring some of Broadway's biggest names coming together to raise awareness to stop bullying and cyberbullying, returns to NYC in February 2018. Michael J Moritz Jr and No Bully will team up once again to put on this benefit concert at Feinstein's/54 Below on Monday, February 5th at 7:00pm.
On December 2nd, 2017 in Orlando, Florida, Michael J Moritz Jr, along with his team members Billy LaGuardia and Brandon Loewit, won an Emmy Award for Audio for their work on the 2016 release of "From Broadway With Love: A Benefit Concert for Orlando".

On Monday, October 16th, 2017, Michael J Moritz Jr will team up with some of Broadway's best and to perform Broadway Against Bullying at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, California. The one-night-only show is being put on by No Bully, a nonprofit foundation whose primary goal is to promote empathy and put an end to bullying and cyberbullying.
